The Fire Surgery has been appointed through Chelsfield on behalf of the client, Carraig Investments Sarl, to develop the fire safety strategy for the proposed mixed-use development K1 Knightsbridge, a scheme being designed by Fletcher Priest architects.
The project involves the redevelopment of an existing, prominent corner site at the heart of Knightsbridge, above the LUL Knightsbridge station. The 340,000 ft2 design includes four levels of enhanced retail, new offices on Hooper’s Court, residential apartments surrounding a secluded courtyard garden at second floor level, and a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views.
The scope of this project is enormously important for local residents and businesses, Londoners and international visitors to the city. There are many benefits, including a relocated main tube entrance with wider pavements on Brompton Road and a new step-free entrance on Hooper’s Court, which will make use of existing abandoned shafts and tunnels. Clever behind-the-scenes adjustments, such as incorporating equipment to air-condition the Piccadilly Line within the roof, will have a big impact on the capacity of the Piccadilly Line and the quality of station environment.
