Hammersmith & Fulham Council, in a joint venture with a2Dominion, are building an extension and full refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Hammersmith Town Hall designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. The scheme seeks to promote “the creation of a new high quality civic mixed-use development” derived from the historic structure and will create a new public square that enhances the setting of the existing protected Town Hall, reinstating its presence on Kings Street.
The wider West King Street development also includes the construction of a series of new buildings, which will provide residential, public assembly, office, and other commercial accommodation. The Fire Surgery is currently appointed up to RIBA Stage 4 on the Town Hall part of the project. The Fire Surgery previously delivered RIBA Stage 3 fire strategy reports for the new build construction of Blocks A to D during September 2019.
The redevelopment will feature:
204 new homes of which 52 per cent will be classified as genuinely affordable for local residents
A four-screen cinema, with cafes, shops and restaurants
A public rooftop bar and restaurant
Community art and event spaces
Affordable, flexible office spaces for start-up businesses
Public space in front of the restored Town Hall for performances and events
Homework spaces for children and students
Inclusively designed buildings to ensure full access for Disabled people
Eco-friendly buildings to minimise carbon footprint and cut fuel bills
