Emmanuel College, with a rich history since its founding in 1584, comprises numerous Grade I and Grade II listed structures. With its distinct identity as an academic institute, the college is now looking to evolve with a series of new developments.
The Fire Surgery was commissioned by Skelly & Couch to provide Fire Engineering support to the proposed development at an existing site owned by Emmanuel College in Cambridge. The project will include the transformation of a neglected part of the college site into new internal and external social spaces, the creation of a new café/social space in the existing South Court building, plans to provide more student accommodation with 80 to 90 new en-suite undergraduate rooms and the refurbishment of the Grade II-listed Furness Lodge building which is adjacent to the college campus. Working sensitively to the historic nature of the building, this refurbishment will provide student accommodation, a new student bar, teaching/office accommodation and graduate study spaces. A new below ground car park will be created as well for the site.
