The Fire Surgery was commissioned to provide fire engineering support to the shell and core refurbishment and fit-out of the Boulevard Theatre within the overall scheme development at Walker’s Court, Soho in Central London.
The project opened in late 2019 and was designed in close collaboration with Charcoal Blue Theatre consultants and using cutting-edge VR technology to develop the configurations and interior finishes. The design accommodates the varying identities of the space, from day to night, cabaret to catwalk and theatre-in-the-round and the result is a striking and modern aesthetic which compliments the energy of the surrounding Soho night life.
The Boulevard theatre features stalls and a balcony that both revolve independently, along with a stage that moves up and down, making a wide variety of different configurations possible. The stalls can be rotated by 360 degrees, while the balcony has a span of 270 degrees. There are also other elements to aid transformations, including blackout window blinds and moving acoustic screens.
